The challenge
The need to effectively promote the many diverse career opportunities within the aerospace industry to young people is an ongoing objective for the Royal Aeronautical Society’s Skills & Careers department. In 2006, the Society approached Radius to review their youth materials and to find more effective ways in which to communicate with their target audience.
OUR APPROACH
We came up with a solution to update the materials and make them more relevant to young people by splitting the audience into two age groups – 5-10 and 11-19 years old. We developed two visual identities with a distinctive tone of voice for each group: bright and bold with character illustrations for the younger ages, and a more sophisticated and aspirational feel for the older age group.
The result
Launched at Farnborough Air Show, the materials proved highly successful, generating significant interest from school children. From this initial project Radius developed an ongoing relationship with the Society, and we have worked on a number of initiatives aimed at helping young people learn about – and be inspired by – the many possible career paths they might take in aviation and aerospace.
